Resolved Question:

Hello, I have just been told at 20 week scan that I have a very low placenta which reaches/crosses the internal os (that's what it says on my notes) I was given no information apart from to come back at 32 weeks to see if it has moved up. I realise that often this happens but it seems to be that mine is actually covering the cervix in some way so I am worried about bleeding. I read that resting is advised but I work and have an energetic toddler! Just wondering if you can clarify please? Many thanks.

Dr Owen :

Hello

Dr Owen :

Well at this point have you had any bleeding?

Customer: I bled a little at 8 weeks but nothing since
Dr Owen :

okay

Dr Owen :

Well what you have is called a Previa -

Dr Owen :

This is fairly common and Many times these DO move away from the cervix

Dr Owen :

So you can Still take care of your toddler, and you can still take care of what you need to do - about the ONLY thing that should not be done is 'No Sex' until the placenta has moved out of the way.

Dr Owen :

And since you have not had bleeding in many months, more than likely you will not have bleeding

Dr Owen :

and moving around, lifting your toddler will not cause bleeding

Customer: Ok great
Dr Owen :

I wish you well
