Resolved Question:

Recently had full STD screen and tested positive for Ureaplasma Parvum, last screen was clean and only had sex with girlfriend that said she was clean but had been having irregular bleeding while on pill, we did not use condoms. So much conflicting information on this subject?!

Dr Owen :

Hello

Dr Owen :

Did you get treated for the ureaplasma?

Dr Owen :

hi

Dr Owen :

Are you still having any symptoms?

Dr Owen :

And what specific question do you have about this?

Dr Owen :

Hi are you there?

Customer: No symptoms, no idea I had it
Customer: Some sites say it's natural in your system
Dr Owen :

Well honestly do not be afraid of the Ureaplasma

Dr Owen :

this is something that we see commonly and it really is not a STD

Dr Owen :

it can at times cause discharge, irritation, Urinary tract infections, but it is EASY to treat with an antibiotic such as Azithromycin or doxycycline

Customer: I just am bit worried, so many different sites say different stuff, could her cervical issues been a indicator she had it, I hear it's not routinely screened for
Dr Owen :

I understand you are worried - but nothing to worry about

Dr Owen :

Yes she could have had this infection too - and it can cause cervical problems such as irritation and bleeding

Dr Owen :

we do not routinely screen for it because it does NOT really cause harm

Customer: And in cases I seen it's naturally in system and more common in women
Dr Owen :

We actually see ureaplasma equally in men and women

Dr Owen :

it is just one of those bacteria that we see commonly, but we do not really do much about, but when we do get a culture that says you have it, we just treat it since it is easy to treat

Customer: what should my next course of action be
Dr Owen :

So, the botXXXXX XXXXXne - is that you should not worry about this

Customer: is it fair it say it's common
Dr Owen :

and just Treat with Azithromycin or Doxycline - these are antibiotics and have your girlfriend get treated too

Dr Owen :

Yes it is common and NOT at all worrisome.

Dr Owen :

and the both of your should be treated at the same time so you do not keep reinfecting each other

Dr Owen :

I wish you well

Customer: thank you
