Dr Owen :

Hi

Dr Owen :

do you use birth control?

Customer:

No I was sterilized 3 years ago

Dr Owen :

okay - but you get this pain during your period, correct?

Customer:

Yes day l start bleeding or sometimes day before

Dr Owen :

okay

Dr Owen :

You are probably experiencing ovarian cysts which are NORMAL - called corpus luteum cysts

Dr Owen :

The BEST way to control these are with birth control - such as the pill - EVEN though you have been sterilized

Customer:

No cysts were found when I had a scan , gp is supposed to be referring to gyne

Dr Owen :

these do not have to be BIG cysts - what I am talking about are PHYSIOLOGICAL cysts -

Dr Owen :

so they do NOT comment about them on a scan

Dr Owen :

they can be 1 to 2 cm in size and hence cause this pain -

Dr Owen :

and they only occur a few days prior to your period

Customer:

Ok ,but can't take the pill as I have a history of thrombosis , guess it back to gp

Dr Owen :

okay

Dr Owen :

Then the can use medication such as Tramadol during the time of your period too - that way you will not get this pain

Dr Owen :

tramadol is a NON-addicting pain medication that I prescribe a lot to women who can't use hormones

Dr Owen :

I wish you well

Dr Owen :

The only other option is to remove your ovaries - but honestly that is not a great option at your age

Dr Owen :

I wish you well
