Customer Question

I am a male 56years of age. I work full time as a university lecturer. I began to experience pins and needles in my left foot/legs/toes and left hand/fingers. The pain and discomfort become more frequent and osscilated between numbness and pins and needles. O ver the last for and half years i have rundegone two operations (elbow decompressive of the nerve/muscle issue- did not work) and on my throat - to relieve pressure on my ulner nerve-did not work). By this time my symtoms were cronic fatigue, weight gain, dry skin, costipation, cronic aches, inful joints, depression feeling cold all the time. My third opinion consultant as indicates that he belives that the problem is and under active thyroid. He is now running some futher blood tests and if confirmed my problem shuod be easily treated with medication. What medication will he try? Mr N Wyatt.

This Dr. David

Dr. David :

if you are found to have underactive thyroid function, your doctor will treat you with supplement thyroid hormone pills such as levothyroxine or synthroid or thyroxine.

Dr. David :

these are the same thyroid hormones as your body's own thyroid gland would produce and oral intake very easily supplements and brings your thyroid hormone levels back up to normal

Dr. David :

this all can be checked with blood testing.

Dr. David :

a TSH or thyroid stimulation hormone level of greater than 3.0 indicates that your thyroid hormone function is low

Dr. David :

low thyroid hormone tends to cause symptoms such as fatigue, weight gain, dry skin, constipation, feeling cold, hair loss.

Dr. David :

however, your symptoms of pins and needles in your legs and foot and fingers may or may not get better with the thyroid hormone supplementation.

Dr. David :

ask your doctor also to check a magnesium level as well, low blood magnesium level might be causing your nerve tingling issue.

Dr. David :

also ask to be referred to see a neurology specialist about your nerves as well.

Dr. David :

low B12 vitamin, low magnesium, diabetes should all be checked for.

Dr. David :

hello?
