This is Dr. David
did you have a parathyroid tumor before which produced too much parathyroid hormone before?
was your calcium levels high?
what is your parathyroid hormone levels now?
you need a thyroid ultrasound
and you might need surgery to remove some of your parathyroid gland if your parathyroid gland is producing too much parathyroid hormone.
i was diagnosed with primary hyperparathyroidism. I underwent left lower parathyroidectomy since September 10, 13. The follow up parathyroid hormone was high 198.8 pg/ml 5/2/2014. the ultrasound neck reported suspected recurrent left parathyroid adenoma, size 6x6x11 mm in diameter. the MBI scan was negative study. now they advise me come back in 6 weeks again for ultrasound study, revision left parathyroidectomy should be considered if the ultrasound study could be detect abnormal. I Just want to know if the surgery the first time went wrong and they not cut out enough from the tumor, that why its keep coming back again. and now since sept 2013 the pth level is always 198 to 2010, should they not do something about it, because my bones are minus 2 and the kidney is destroyed in stage 3 its works only 34 percent.?????
yes it sounds like they didn't cut out all of the parathyroid adenoma.
it can be tricky to cut out all of the parathryoid tumor and try to leave some normal parathyroid gland.
they do need to do another parathyroid surgery.
you need to get your parathryoid hormone levels lower.
do you have other questions?
you actually have 4 small parathyroid glands around your thyroid gland.
