I have a nine week old with a breathing rate of over 80

Customer Question

Hi, I have a nine week old with a breathing rate of over 80 (intermittently) since birth. It doesn't bother him and he's a big healthy boy at 14lb 8 and exclusively breastfed. He's been referred to hospital three times about it and has had an ecg, echo, bloods and chest X-Ray - all completelynormal. The peads all think it's 'probably' normal for him and he'll grow out of it. Should I be pushing for more tests? Thanks

Hi, no need for further test if oxygen saturation normal by finger probe.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Oxygen saturation 98-100 on every occasion. What could it be though? Is it something you have seen before?
Expert:  Dr. Y. Vasavada replied 1 year ago.
Yes it is merely sensitive respiratory drive and brain center, harmless.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
It couldn't be neurological? He's developing perfectly as far as I can see?
Expert:  Dr. Y. Vasavada replied 1 year ago.
No lesion but just slight immaturity of certain brain centers.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
So he should just grow out of it?
Expert:  Dr. Y. Vasavada replied 1 year ago.
Yes with maturity the nerve fibers and centers, he will certainly grow out of it. The rate will reduce gradually.
