Hi..

Hopefully I can help..

Has there been any engine warning lights come on since the fault?

When it does start is there any visable smoke out the back or missfire felt at anytime?

How many miles does it have?

Customer: replied 3 years ago.

No engine warning lights on.

No smoke or misfire.

80.00 miles full service history.

Hi..there

Ok..it maybe worth replacing the ECT sensor "engine coolant temp sensor" this is what the ecu uses to aid hot cold starting.so if faulty for what ever reason then can cause symptoms as above - it would be cheapest way forward first and see if it improves - as well as maybe try a new fuel filter - as you say the fuel was ran pretty low so it maybe worth trying a new filter anyway, cheapest option first, once you have the old one off just make a check inside and ensure there is no swarf /glitter swimming around at the bottom as this can be a sure since of fuel pumps failure- another likly problem could be air getting dragged in via a fualty line or fuel system seal so again check "all" rubber fuel hoses inc: from injectors leak off pipes for any leaks or excess rubbing/cracks or chaff marks that could let air in.. other likly issues could be faulty crank sensor / HP "high pressure" pump/Injector(s) "perform leak of test" or FRP rail pressure sensor all of which in all cases being an hdi really has to be monitored "pressures" using the required specialised equipment..i do hope this helps

Replaced engine coolant temp sensor and still have problem. Will now try changing fuel filter.

Customer: replied 3 years ago.

tried fuel filter but still problem.Looking at live data and when starting from cold the fuel pressure is over 300 but when the car won`t start the pressure is less than 100,any ideas?

Expert:  Robert replied 3 years ago.

Hi..

Ok well least we have covered the basics as per what you have done already ,you don't say wether you double checked inside the old filter as previously mentioned before just to be sure theres no signals of pump failure brass filings is lp pump and silvery is hp pump - have you tried a leak of test on the injectors just to rule those out..could be looking at possible HP pump failing.? i can vaguely remember having a similar fault in our garage and turned out to be a failed injector to much leak back..

Customer: replied 3 years ago.

Engine management light now on,car goes into limp mode.analysis is saying fuel rail pressure fault.

Expert:  Robert replied 3 years ago.

Hi..there..

Ok..could be two things either faulty rail pressure sensor check the wiring loom from the pressure sensor for any chaffing or breaks.or fuel pressure regulator on the pump itself..

Customer: replied 3 years ago.

Thanks for your suggestions, have ordered sensor and regulator, will let you know the result,

Bryan.
