If your boiler is unable to heat up the hot water as fast as you can run it and your heating is ok, then I suggest you get your plate heat exchanger cleaned

Customer: Thanks andrew
Customer: may it need replacing?
Customer: would a heat engineer need to do this?

You can strip it out and put it in a bucket of strong descaler but it is a tough job

Customer: I'm a carpenter by trade Andrew and can generally work things out but am a little concerned to touch the boiler.
Customer: is it something I can do myself?

It is complicated, probably better to get someone in, they will also guarantee it for leaks too

Customer: Thank you for your advise.
Customer: much appreciated.
