Resolved Question:

Letting agents have sent out another plumber, apparently ...

"From checking the boiler he has said the PCB needs replacing along with the faulty gas valve. This is the same as the other engineer that visited.

The second engineers quote is as follows:

After full diagnostic boiler beyond economical repair. Boiler 15 plus years old.

New gas valve required £180 Vat

New Pcb £180 + Vat

New hot water diaphragm £30 + Vat

Parts alone at £492 including vat"

What are your thoughts?

Labour £150"

XXXXX XXXXX :

The prices seem about right, so it would be better to replace it.

XXXXX XXXXX :

It is hard to see how it was working with only one of these broken, nevermind all of them?

Customer:

The property is under offer, and will be sold in a few weeks, so replacing it is a big pill to swallow :-(

XXXXX XXXXX :

£1000 for a new Ravenheat or Ferroli or £650 to make this one good as new?

XXXXX XXXXX :

Do you have the make and model - perhaps you can source the parts cheaper although they do sound correct

Customer:

It is an Alpha 240E

Customer:

I have found alphaboilerparts.co.uk

Customer:

Would any of these problems show up in a Gas Cert done at end Nov?

XXXXX XXXXX :

An alpha 240E, ok not the best but quite reliable

XXXXX XXXXX :

I suppose you are just unlucky

XXXXX XXXXX :

An easy swap with something cheap just to get you out the door?

XXXXX XXXXX :

The problems are stopping the boiler from working, while the boiler was working these items would not have been faulty - so there is nop clue until it goes wrong

XXXXX XXXXX :

The diaphragm would show as the hot water not starting every time or having to run the boiler faster to get the hot water to fire the boiler
