I need to know if i can stop water to hot water system but not the rest of my flat. I can only see a way to turn it off everywhere. I have skype I can show you the pipes and stuff I just need you to tell me what to do.
Hi . ok , will try to help . but can I just clarify? You want to stop the hot water only but leave the cold water running ?
I want to stop the cold water going into the unvented hot water system but still go to my kitchen tap so I can get some water
people say to me its possible but i just see one place it comes into flat
i got skype, can show you the pipes
Hi . it all depends how the install as done. If the incoming main was branched off to your kitchen sink before going to the invented cylinder then you can . but first look fore stopcock near the cylinder first it may be brass or it may have a black handle
can I add pictures or video to this chat?
ill upload a video to youtube if you want?
uploading it to dropbox now, will have a link in a sec when its finished
Hi , sorry I can't get my Dropbox to work . is it possible to upload some photos?
thats a public link
should just load, lemme check
yeah just go to the link in browser and it plays like a youtube vid
lemme check from another pc
ill put to youtube then
Ok , thanks
ahh sry, the file is massive that why it probably dont work
will be on youtube in a sec
Hi. I have seen the vid . you say they water is pouring out of somewhere?
After the brass stopcock there is a pressure reducing valve , then a mixing valve to stop the water being to hot reaching your taps . then the last is a safety valve
yeah the water it leaking from bottom of tank near the heating element
so need to stop water going into it or it just pours out onto floor
Ok , do you think it is leaking from the element itself or the actual tank?
I had the element replaced a few months ago because it burnt out, the plumber had a hard job replacing it he had to scrape out loads of limescale. I think its weakened it, its all a bit rusty
the water looks like it was coming from beneath the element but also there was a bit of water on top of tank
i don't know it pressure built up or something and it popped
but if i turn water back on i see it straight away coming out from where the wires are for the element
i guess its stil leaking now
but slower maybe i dont know, cant see anything coming out
i just sent a bit of water through
looks like its coming from another place also
Ok.because the cold water branches off to the rest of the flat after the stopcock , you are not going to be able to isolate the tank. The stopcock would have to be in front of that branch tee. The only way would be to turn off the water an cap the cold inlet to the tank. But can I just check one thing, if you turn off the stopcock does it turn off the cold to the kitchen as well !
inside the outershell
the gold tap right?
the gold tap turns off everything
Ok . the way its been plumbed there's no way of isolating the tank only . you would have to turn off the stopcock and cap off the cold inlet to the tank
ok, i guess thats a job for a plumber then
what should I say in job desc? just need to cap a pipe?
You could do it yourself if you fancied giving it a go . you would need a 22mm pipe cutter and a 22mm pusfit cap. But yes if you were to get a plumber just tell them you want to cap off a 22mm water pipe . tell them to bring a cap with them or don't bother.
excellent, how much would you charge to talk me through it?
Its all in dollars( must be american site , about 7 dollars , or about 3 quid
I dont have a pipe cutter, will have to buy one tomorrow
ill bookmark your page
Ok , you should be able to come back to this conversation. Get two caps.
cool thanks dude
Best to cap both sides of the the pipe once we cut a section out
do i need to click something for you to get cash for this question?
You just need to rate it ok or better , but if you want to talk on the phone you would have to accept the phone additional offer
We can talk like this though nonprobs even if you rate me now or afterwards
