I have just installed driver for Canon 510 printer on my new Lenovo Windows 7 laptop, but the scanner is not working -- any ideas? Many thanks.

I push scan, it asks document or photo etc I choose document, then it asks me to push the b&w or colour button, but then nothing happens.


 


I also tried to scan from the laptop MP navigator screen using auto scan but it just says "scan failed".

Have you tried scanning from a 3rd party program like paint?

I didn't know I could do that, I don't normally do that, there isn't usually a problem....

Ok click on start and type paint then press enter.
Click the blue box at the top and click on from scanner or camera.
Then click on scan and let me know what happens.

That has just worked! It saved the document into a paint file -- why is that?

Ok if that worked it means the scanner is working currently but the software is not.
Rather than installing the printer please reinstall MP navigator.

I use the printer driver disc and choose manual installation and just choose MP Navigator programme? Do I delete the programme first before reinstalling?

No, same thing happening I'm afraid. I did get dialogue box asking me if i wanted to use MPNavigator or Omni scan, I chose MP -- there were lots of wheezings and grindings from the printer but then nothing.

OK - I switched printer off and on again and retried to scan but the dialog box hasn't come up now

You may beed to reinstall the program once again for that to come up.

It is best to have both, so please uninstall both, then reinstall both.

Omni scan has asked me to register and then tells me there is "no scanner" and asks me if I want to download latest scanner database from Nuance.

Ok do not do that uninstal both one last time.
Lets try a new version of navigator in case yours is out of date: Click Here
(It shows a different machine but they use the same software this is just the newest version)

I deleted both programmes, restarted. downloaded MP 3.5, but when I tried to scan it still offered me a dialogue between MP 3 or Omni Scan. I am getting exhausted here .... it has been a long day.

Choose MP 3 and see if you get an error.

Unfortunately I am not sure why it is not working though you can use paint as a work around. One last thing I can suggest is uninstall everything. Printer driver, scanner driver, all canon programs and then reinstall only the drivers and mp navigator.

I'm exhausted and I have to cook the dinner -- I am happy to try that tomorrow but I have spent half of today sorting out broadband and this pprooblem with my new laptop and I need to stop right now.
