Hello my name isXXXXX look forward to assisting and am very sorry to hear that you are having this problem.
What happens when you try to scan?
Did it stop working when you upgraded to 10.9?
.
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

when I click on "SCAN" in applications, a dialogue box pops up saying 3.7.1. won't work with 10.97

The iMac is new and came with the higher OS software.

By the way the delay in replying has been due to storm damage which kept me offline until now.

Hi and Welcome. My Name is XXXXX XXXXX I look forward to assisting you today with your question.

Epson currently don't have the latest driver for your device for 10.9 Mavericks. I've found this version of Epson Scan : ftp://download.epson-europe.com/pub/download/3778/epson377845eu.dmg

Before installing the above scan application, delete the older one from the Applications folder.

If that didn't work, then try this one. It is for another scanner, but it might work on your model : https://ftp.epson.com/drivers/epson15897.dmg

If that didn't work too, then you can use Apple's Image Capture application to scan until Epson update the driver. You can find Image Capture in Applications folder. See here : http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4505

There is also a third party application that you can use to scan to your Mac : http://www.hamrick.com/

If you've any questions or would like any additional information, please don't hesitate to ask.

Best Regards,
Ashik
