I have a Canon Pixma iP5200R which has worked well up to now.

Resolved Question:

I have a Canon Pixma iP5200R which has worked well up to now. When I wanted to use it a couple of days ago, I pressed the 'on' button and it came on but would not work, and the orange lamp started flashing repetitively.
In the PC's printer window, I can double click the Canon and the first window shows that it is in 'Printer Ready' state. When I select the Properties, Print Test Page, it shows the normal test page sent to printer but another window comes up saying: Operator Error. Please press Resume. If this doesn't work, turn off/on again.
This doesn't work. The orange flashing lamp is flashing 5 times cyclically.
Could you advise, please? Looks like the WiFi connection is fine, but something not working inside the printer. All looks OK from the outside.

VanMagnus Systems :

How are you today?

VanMagnus Systems :

Ok, we're there any storms or power outages recently in your area...

VanMagnus Systems :

???

Customer:

I've avoided them, I'm glad to say.

VanMagnus Systems :

Ok...

VanMagnus Systems :

And no power surges in your area???

VanMagnus Systems :

Process of elimination as to why I am asking these questions..

Customer:

Not to my knowledge. Nothing else has shown signs of elect damage, but I can't be sure that the Printer, which was turned on, might not have been subject to some.

VanMagnus Systems :

Ok......

VanMagnus Systems :

Give me a few moments.....

Customer:

But, nothing anyone has noticed as an outage.

VanMagnus Systems :

OK, I am back... How many times does the light "FLASH"????

Customer:

As I said, five times.

VanMagnus Systems :

OK....

VanMagnus Systems :

Sir, this indicates a Print Head Error....

Customer:

Yes - I read that in the manual. Any ideas apart from that? Like, what to do?

VanMagnus Systems :

To resolve this issue, please do the following:

VanMagnus Systems :

Reinstall the Cartriges and the Print Head.

VanMagnus Systems :

1. Place the print head in the holder and lower the print head lock lever carefully until you hear a click.

VanMagnus Systems :

2. Insert ink tanks into the print head.

Press the mark 'PUSH' on the ink tank firmly until you hear a click.

VanMagnus Systems :

3. Ensure that all the ink tanks are installed properly and the ink tank lamps light red.

Customer:

I'm not familiar with reinstalling the print head (but am OK with the tanks). Could you advise what I do - there's a lever to the left of the holder.

VanMagnus Systems :

Ok...

VanMagnus Systems :

Flip that lever please....

Customer:

Done

VanMagnus Systems :

OK, Flip it back and then reinstall the Inks....

Customer:

Done. The orange light is no longer flashing, but the green on/off one is. The printer cartridges are not lit at present.

VanMagnus Systems :

Turn Printer Off the On again....

VanMagnus Systems :

Then we should have a Green light...

Customer:

The on/off button, when pressed for several seconds, doesn't turn off the printer. The green light is in continuous flashing on/off.

Customer:

Shall I disconnect the power cord to turn off and then try turning on again?

VanMagnus Systems :

OK...

VanMagnus Systems :

Go right ahead...

Customer:

Unfortunately, printer now on (green lamp steady) but orange lamp flashing in fives.

VanMagnus Systems :

ok....

VanMagnus Systems :

Ok, about to post some assistance fr you Sir....

VanMagnus Systems :

VanMagnus Systems :

Please remove the Cartridges again.... Then do the above....

Customer:

Have done. I note that the carrier has some black ink underneath it. Looks like it might be worth cleaning that off. Agreed? I can use methelated spirits.

VanMagnus Systems :

Then reseat the Cartridges Like so:

VanMagnus Systems :

Lastly, make sure that all Ink Cartridges are all properly reseated. As here:

VanMagnus Systems :

Can you see that Last Image Sir???

Customer:

please note we are slightly out of sync. See above query.

VanMagnus Systems :

Oh, so sorry please clean it Sir and continue with the process...

Customer:

Have done that. And have seen your images thank.

Customer:

Unfortunately, green lamp on, orange one still flashing.

VanMagnus Systems :

Ok.... Let us go back to step one.... Remove all Cartridges and the Print head....

Customer:

Done

VanMagnus Systems :

After you do that, I need for you to look at the contacts on the back of the Print Head and at the ones on the Interface that they connect with on your Printer. Then tell me what you see??

VanMagnus Systems :

Are those Copper Contacts "Dirty"?

Customer:

They look clean. The copper 'matrix' pads were clean before I did the cleaning. The square pad and long pad are now clean.

VanMagnus Systems :

Ok, please reassemble everything in the order previously stated Sir....

VanMagnus Systems :

Oh please note: When starting printing next time, the print head cleaning launches automatically.
During the print head cleaning, the Power lamp flashes green. Do not do other operations until the flashes stops.

Customer:

Now back in place. No change to flashing lamps.

VanMagnus Systems :

It is still Flashing 5 Times?????

Customer:

Afraid so. Do you think the electronics has been damaged?

VanMagnus Systems :

Ok.. Hold on... There may be one more thing that we can try.....

VanMagnus Systems :

The print head is not installed ,
or it is not properly installed.
Install the print head properly.

VanMagnus Systems :

Or it may mean:

VanMagnus Systems :

Print head temperature sensor
error

VanMagnus Systems :

Or:

VanMagnus Systems :

Faulty EEPROM data of the
print head

VanMagnus Systems :

Now the first one we have eliminated Correct???

Customer:

I thought the cleaning/reseating was going to work just because I hadn't used the printer for quite a time and that kind of thing happens. But, yes, we have eliminated that one.

VanMagnus Systems :

Ok...

VanMagnus Systems :

Now let us pin this down Sir...

VanMagnus Systems :

Ok, let us remove the Sheet feeder from the printer.... Then refill it with paper......

VanMagnus Systems :

Then replace it back in the Printer...

Customer:

Please be more specific. There is now no paper in the main sheet feeder. The one underneath the printer now has no paper.

VanMagnus Systems :

Print head temperature rise means:

If the print head temperature is high when the access cover is
opened, the warning is displayed.
When the print head temperature falls, the warning is released

VanMagnus Systems :

The issue that I just posted above will take 30 to 60 minutes to allow the Printer to cool down..

Customer:

OK but as I hadn't had the opportunity to use the printer at all in weeks, it doesn't look as if that could have happened. The printer head has not done anything heat generating for weeks. So, I'd think that this is not likely at all.

Customer:

Does it look like an EEProm fault?

Customer:

Please advise before my £15 payment 'runs out' thank you.

VanMagnus Systems :

OK, now this is the final solution to you issue:

VanMagnus Systems :

Logic board ass'y

VanMagnus Systems :

That means you would need to purchase or have a repair shop replace that for you....

VanMagnus Systems :

Before removal of the
logic board ass'y,
remove the power cord,
and allow for approx. 1
minute (for discharge of
capacitor's accumulated
charges), to prevent
damages to the logic
board ass'y.
- Before replacement,
check the waste ink
amount (by service test
print or EEPROM
information print). If the
waste ink amount is 7%
or more, also replace the
ink absorber kit when
replacing

Customer:

OK. Useful to have got to that stage, thank you.

VanMagnus Systems :

If the Print Head Sir is not "HOT", then the Printer Logic Board wouls need to be replaced....

Customer:

Yes. Thanks for your help.

VanMagnus Systems :

Would...

VanMagnus Systems :

Spelling error...

VanMagnus Systems :

Please consider a positive rating for the assistance rendered....

Customer:

Will do. Best regards.

VanMagnus Systems :

You are most welcome Sir...
