Direct via a USB cable
what happens if you scan from the printer software?
the same. All I get from the scanner ( which is also my printer) is the message " not connected"
Is that the exact message that appears?

I feel a bit daft. I downloaded the Epson programme. However to install I need my administrator name and password ***** the Mac which we have lost ! Any good ideas ?
That is the password ***** setup when you configured the Mac. Unfortunately, i cannot help with that because it is a different issue and you would need to ask a question separately for that.
I will go digging for the password ***** and admin name and see what I can do. Can I just leave "chat" open for a while ?
