My name is***** and I live in Aldershot, Hampshire.

Resolved Question:

My name is***** and I live in Aldershot, Hampshire. Last week I bought a Brother MFC - J4410DW Printer. I wanted a stand alone printer that would print A3 size. I have not yet registered the printer. I managed to get the printer up and running and found out how to print on A3 paper from the A4 document on the scanner glass. I have tried everything but cannot get the document to fit on A3 paper. The A3 paper comes out with all the document printed but it only fits part of the paper. I need it to fit the whole of the A3 size paper. What am I doing wrong? I didn't want to print from the CD-ROM as I already have a printer for A4. I just wanted a printer that would print wholly on A3 size paper. Can you help me please?

A. Stevens :

Hi, I am A. Stevens here to help with your question!

A. Stevens :

So just to make sure I understand the issue wholly

A. Stevens :

You are trying to directly print a document through the scanner that is A4 size, is that correct?

A. Stevens :

Without utilizing the computer whatsoever.

Customer:

Yes, just from the printer and not using the computer at all. The document to be printed from is A4 but I would like it to be printed on A3

A. Stevens :

I understand

A. Stevens :

Are you in front of the printer now?

Customer:

No

A. Stevens :

There is going to be a setting to adjust in the display panel of the printer.

A. Stevens :

That should allow you to scale the document.

Customer:

The printer is in the other room so I would need to go there and leave this on

A. Stevens :

These are the steps.

Customer:

If you are going to give me directions will you stay on line until I try it?

A. Stevens :

A. Stevens :

Yes, definitely.

A. Stevens :

A. Stevens :

Sorry for some reason JA image upload is not working.

A. Stevens :

Let me upload it a different way.

A. Stevens :

Please click on that link. It will open an image with the instructions.

A. Stevens :

I'll be on standby while you give it a try.

Customer:

I have tried that as it appears in the Basic Users Guide. Also I have tried it from the touchscreen

A. Stevens :

It still does not print correctly?

Customer:

No it only covers part of the page and not the whole A3 paper

A. Stevens :

OK, I've located some additional info in the advanced user guide.

A. Stevens :

I think this should help you to get it correct.

A. Stevens :

You should be able to adjust the enlargement/reduction by percentage to get it to fit correctly.

A. Stevens :

There is a guide with percentages there for reference.

A. Stevens :

I don't see A4->A3 specifically, but it should be around 90%

A. Stevens :

Or otherwise you can try the Fit-to-page option.

A. Stevens :

Please let me know if that doesn't work and we can try to find something else.

A. Stevens :

But I think that should resolve it.

Customer:

OK I will have a go now. I have printed the directions and will get back to you.

A. Stevens :

Great.

Customer:

I cannot get beyond Enlarge or Reduce to get Custom - it just prints A4 size on A3 paper

A. Stevens :

Are you hitting the up and down arrows after you get to enlarge or reduce?

A. Stevens :

Looks like "^"

A. Stevens :

That should let you go through the different enlarge/reduce options

Customer:

Please do not think I am an idiot but do you have to hit both the up and down arrows?

A. Stevens :

No, not at all.

A. Stevens :

You can hit either one

A. Stevens :

Not both at the same time

Customer:

I will have another try

A. Stevens :

OK, no problem.

A. Stevens :

I'm standing by.

Customer:

I must be doing something wrong. I get enlarge and then it says 198% 10 x 15cm = A4

A. Stevens :

Right so try hitting the up and down keys until you find the right setting.

A. Stevens :

Sorry I wish I could be more descrptive but it's hard to explain when I'm not right in front of the machine.

Customer:

I will have another go, but I wish I could get to Custom

A. Stevens :

You just need to play around with the arrows.

A. Stevens :

You'll be able to get to it sooner or later.

Customer:

I can't remember how I did it but I got to the place where it said insert A3 paper press OK and then it went back to the beginning. I wish I could get it sooner or later

Customer:

It did say 141% A4 - A3 Would that be correct?

A. Stevens :

Yes

A. Stevens :

That should be correct.

A. Stevens :

Did it work?

Customer:

Not yet I must be doing something wrong. When I press OK it goes back to the beginning

A. Stevens :

Don't hit OK

A. Stevens :

Just hit "black start" or "color start"

A. Stevens :

right away

Customer:

How do I get it to print then? What do I press?

A. Stevens :

Start copy

Customer:

I have never seen that on the screen, but I will go and try again.

A. Stevens :

It's not on the screen, but the physical button.

A. Stevens :

Actually, after you get the correct enlargement setting, hit "OK", and then press the phyiscal copy button.

A. Stevens :

That should be the correct process.

A. Stevens :

I have to step away for a meeting at this time, could you please let me know if that works, and if it doesn't we can continue to work on this in a couple of hours?

A. Stevens :

I would really appreciate your patience.

Customer:

Bingo I don't know how it worked but at least I know it does. It printed the whole document on A3

Customer:

I will stay on line and come back to this about 7.30pm if that is OK with you.

Customer:

I will say that the settings were too much and I did not get the whole document so I will have to play around with the settings. At the moment I don't know how to do that.

A. Stevens :

Hi, I am available now, if you are?

A. Stevens :

I see..so just adjust the percentages

A. Stevens :

Until it gets to be where you want it to be.

A. Stevens :

I think you're on the right track now though.

Customer:

I have got to say that I am proud of myself. I have copied the document 3 times and somehow it come up with 141% A4-A3 and it worked.

A. Stevens :

Fantastic!

A. Stevens :

I'm happy that we were able to get it to work now!

A. Stevens :

Do you have any additional questions or was I able to answer your question today?

Customer:

I must thank you for giving me the confidence to carry on with it. You are right I just need to be patient. No, that was the only question - that was why I bought the printer in the first place - to print A3. My Club will be very pleased.
