I have a Canon Pixma iP4900 (or is it 4950) printer which has just broken. Is this machine still available to buy? If not what is the comparable replacement?

My Canon Pixma iP4950 simply stopped working when it finished printing a PDF document. The orange resume light flashed with the green power light but when pressed nothing was restored. Canon named it as a hardware fault B200 and recommended a technician repair in Surrey - I live in Cumbria.

the b200 error is a printhead voltage sensor error..that means that while printing due to high temperature either the printhead has gone bad or power supply on printer which connects to logic board has faulted

since repairs in such cases are costly it is best to opt in for a new unit

as recommended by Canon I unplugged m/c from power and disconnected from computer and left it alone for an hour. then reconnected - have flashing power signal as before but same failure warning, so no go.

remove the cartridge...turn off the unit....unplug the power cable...manually slide the carriage assembly\ printhead back and forth
also clean the rail against which the assembly slides with a tissue ensuring that there is no ink residue on it
clean the golden contacts of the cartridges and the printhead with a cotton swab dipped in little alcohol
once these steps have been done turn on printer and check

Ok - have done the sliding printrail along several time and also the rail is clean - will now wipe the print cartridge contacts....

ok since this error is getting repeated buying a new printer would be the best option rather than getting this one repaired as repair cost would be almost the same as a new printer
