Michelle :

Hi, My name is ***** ***** i will be assisting you

Michelle :

please let me know how is printer connected to computer...usb or wifi

Michelle :

also let me know if you have windows or macosx on your computer

Customer:

mac osx maverick wifi connection

Michelle :

and this issue started just today

Michelle :

its printing half pages only

Customer:

It stopped printing mid page and hasn't printed anything since

Customer:

YES TODAY

Michelle :

is it for a specific kind of document or anything you print,,have you tried printing a test page from the printer itself

Customer:

Yes the test page is only partially printed.

Michelle :

ok

Michelle :

please follow the below steps

Customer:

This happens for all documents. And when I try printing DVD labels (which I do a lot), the image is indistinct but there is some image there. I am not using Canon inks, but "compatible" ones

Michelle :

remove the cartridge...turn off the unit....unplug the power cable...manually slide the carriage assembly\ printhead back and forth
also clean the rail against which the assembly slides with a tissue ensuring that there is no ink residue on it
clean the golden contacts of the cartridges and the printhead with a cotton swab dipped in little alcohol
once these steps have been done, turn on printer and try a print

Michelle :

let me know the status once done

Customer:

How do I remove the cartridge (there are several ink cartridges)

Michelle :

repeat the steps for all other inkcartridges

Customer:

You mean remove all the ink catridges?

Michelle :

yes

Michelle :

all of them and fater cleaning insert them back in one by one

Customer:

Do I do the cleaning of the cartridges before I move the carriage and clean the rail?

Michelle :

yes

Customer:

which is the nozzle head?

Customer:

Where do I find the nozzle head.

Customer:

Also I have switched everything off as requested and the carriage is stuck on the right hand side.

Michelle :

the nozzle head is that part from where ink comes out

Customer:

on each cartridge?

Michelle :

are you checking the nozzles on the ink or on the printehad

Michelle :

yes

Customer:

I don't understand "the nozzles on the ink or the printhead" Which is the printhead?

Michelle :

leave that step

Michelle :

rather, just clean the rail and slide the carraige to and fro ensuring it moved freely

Michelle :

turn on printer and reinsert ink

Customer:

The carriage cannot move , as I keep saying

Michelle :

did you clean the rail

Customer:

yes but not under where the carriage is on the right

Michelle :

ok

Michelle :

turn on printer...reinsert ink and tery printing

Customer:

so what now?

Michelle :

try a print

Michelle :

does it still print half a page

Michelle :

if yes, try the below

Michelle :

from home screen...go to setup..maintainence...select auto head alignment option

Michelle :

once that completes try printing again and let me know

Customer:

Just tried a print and nothing came through

Michelle :

nothing or half print

Customer:

nothing

Customer:

I spoke to Canon who said that using non Canon cartridges may have irreversibly damaged the printer

Michelle :

ok..

Michelle :

how old is this printer

Michelle :

see there are 2 possibilities..either the printhead has gone faulty or the main logic board on printer is causing this

Michelle :

can you try running a deep cleaning of the printhead

Michelle :

let me know once you have run the headcleaning

Customer:

There is no such thing as a deep cleaning on offer.

Michelle :

ok

Customer:

Sorry, just found the option

Michelle :

ok..please run it

Michelle :

once done try a print

Customer:

The nozzle pattern thingy is still not as it should be (I had discussed this with Canon so I know how it should look) and still not printing.

Michelle :

is it missing lines or colors

Michelle :

entire blocks

Customer:

there are just four blocks of colour 2 pale blue and 2 pale pink no black at all

Customer:

and no yellow

Michelle :

got it

Michelle :

now 2 things possible...either the printhead is clogged from inisde due to use of non oem ink

Michelle :

or the printer has developed an internal fault

Michelle :

how old is this printer

Michelle :

you can try using a printhead cleaning kit to unclog the printhead

Michelle :

but if still problem repeats the printer would need to be serviced

Michelle :

printehad cleaning kits are easily available at printer stores as well as online

Michelle :

you can check the one i am listing below available on ebay

Michelle :

if the cleaner does not make any difference the printer itself would need to be serviced...

Customer:

OK, this all seems like too time consuming for me...As the likelihood of internal fault seems high.

Michelle :

yes that is correct

Michelle :

is the unit within warranty cover

Customer:

No

Michelle :

ok

Michelle :

well to be honest in such a case a printhead would cost somewhere around 60-70pounds...if its a logic board fault..maybe more

Michelle :

plus service charges would make it cost almost equal to buying a new printer

Michelle :

i would recommend to check a service estimate cost from the repair store and then decide whether you would like to get this one serviced or buy a new printer

Michelle :

i hope you understand, that in case of hardware faults\jams, i can diagnose the area of fault but cannot make a bad part work again

Michelle :

let me know if you have any questions

What I don't understand about Just answer: as the problem wasn't solved (although you have been helfpul) do I have to pay the £26 anyway? And how do I opt out of paying this charge regularly?
