, my printer says 'set the pc to start scanning' when I select

Resolved Question:

Hi, my printer says 'set the pc to start scanning' when I select the scan mode.....what does this mean?! On the start menu on the pc for the printer, the scan strip is empty. Help please! thanks

Can you print from the computer without an error? What version of windows or mac is on the computer? What model printer is this?

I am Windows 8, printer is canon MG6450, prints and copies fine but can't scan as says the above.

That message means it is not sure where to send the scan, it normally happens if you have the printer connected via network or WiFi. Try scanning this way instead:

Right-click the Start button in the lower left corner of the screen.



Click Search, and then type Fax and Scan.

Click Windows Fax and Scan in the results.
Click New Scan, and then click Scan.
Click on File and then save as to save.

It says 'no scanners were detected etc'

Ok that would mean the scanner driver did not install.
Go to this page: Click Here Download and install the one that says MP drivers by scrolling down a bit, then try the same steps above again.

I have downloaded it, do I then need to click and open the file?

Yes you need to run/install it as well just saving it to the computer will not do anything.

I selected wireless and it has installed. Checking now.
