Cartridge carriage error. I've an ancient but much valued

Customer Question

Cartridge carriage error. I've an ancient but much valued Lexmark P4350. When scanning/copying the printing functions normally then suddenly the cartridge carrier crashes across from left to right and everything stops! The message is - cartridge jammed.
If the m/c is switched off and restarted, it will do the same again.

Can you attempt the following please
Make sure the printer is on.
Raise the scanner unit.
Remove both print cartridges.
Make sure the cartridge carrier lids are closed.
Close the scanner unit.
Press power button to turn the printer off.
Disconnect the power cord from the wall outlet.
wait 5 minutes
Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
Press power button to turn the printer on.
Reinstall the print cartridge
Then tell me please if it prints.

The cartridge carrier dashed from left to right and stopped with no attempt to print at all. The m/c's message was clear cartridge carrier jam. I inspected the interior carefully and there was no obstruction on the conveyor and the horizontal belt across the back of the m/c appeared intact as did the wider retainer belt fixed from the centre back of the m/c to the cartridge carrier. Please advise me further.

Certainly I've still got a major problem because the m/c makes no attempt to print, the carriage races from left to right and the "window" clear the carrier jam. What next?

It is the mainboard or a sensor that has faulted.
We have ruled out all other causes for this. Its a hardware issue, not a firmware problem.
I am really sorry about this and you are going to have to replace the printer. The warranty will have expired and it is not economically feasible to have this repaired
