Hi there,

Having worked in property rental in the past I can think of no instance where a tenant renting a flat in a block was responsible for maintainance charges for the upkeep of communal hallways, car parks etc .. My understanding was that this was the responsibility of the owner / landlord .. The only exception was if water rates were included in the charges and the tenant sometimes would pay a percentage for water use ... I would appreciate some advice . My son is due to vacate a property at the end of January and I have only become aware that he has paid the total maintainance charge on his flat
