How can I find out if our landlord, who is charging us VAT on top of our rent, has the option to tax or is just adding it on for his own profit?
We don't have any invoices from him, only a lease agreement.
So can I demand an invoice as this goes back to 2009 for the original agreement, he is now chasing arrears which we do not dispute but don't agree with the figures he is quoting?
He has a company but the lease agreement is in his name only and all payments have been made direct to him. Does that mean if his company is VAT registered he would still need a VAT number for himself?
Right, I have spoken to our secretary who set up the lease and it turns out the payments are made to a third party (a grass roots football club) so if I get in touch with HMRC do I ask if this club is VAT registered as opposed to him?
Yes, i take it this is a case of money laundering by the sounds of it?
