the date on the agreement is for 6 months starting 1st April 2013

Ok.
They have flipped over into a periodic tenancy agreement.
You need to serve a S21 notice on them giving them no less than two months notice on or before the rental date.
You should really used S21[4][a]. There has been some caselaw that has weakened the requirements but if you get it right then you don't need to worry about relying on that.
You don't need to give a reason for this termination. You can end the agreement for any reason you want to.
