A Landlord has to give 2 months Notice, such Notice to end on the day before the monthly rent is due.
A Tenant has to give 1 month's Notice in the same fashion.

The law provides that a landlord can only terminate a periodic AST by serving a Notice under Section 21 of the Act. This notice is commonly known as a Section 21 Notice. A Section 21 Notice does not have to be in a prescribed form but it does have to contain certain information required by the Act.
A Tenant need only give his Notice in writing confirming the date he intends to end the AST.
