I have a LG Freeview+DVD recorder model RHT498H. The machine

Resolved Question:

I have a LG Freeview+DVD recorder model RHT498H. The machine powers up but did not even display LG icon. On advice I pressed menu button then volume up and managed to get to factory reset however when doing this the machine froze and would not respond to anything. Then switched off then on again at which point would not go beyond "hello".
Machine was received as xmas present in 2012. Any ideas?

Can you remove the power from the LG

Then hold the power button in for 1 minute and release.

Plug the power back in and then turn it no.

Tell me exactly what happens please

My son-in-law is the technical one and he tried what you suggested on Sunday without success. Can you email any other suggestions so that I can pass it to him to try.

Sorry, but it means the chipset on the mainboard has faulted.

There are only two causes for this, either residue power build up or a faulted chipset (this stops it from loading the firmware).

I am really sorry about this and you are going to have to return the unit to have it replaced. It will be covered by the warranty if this has not expired, and the replacement will be done at no cost to you.
