Resolved Question:

I have Panasonic DVD Recorder Model Number DMR-ES30VEB which has behaved perfectly until now--After a short time (generally about 5mins) of VHS or DVD playback
the unit completely switches off and is completely dead--If I disconnect the unit from the mains supply for about 10mins the unit will operate again but will switch off again after another 5mins. Help Please

I want to rule out the firmware as the cause for this please.
Power it on and with it on, on the unit itself, push and hold both the channel up and down buttons for 10 seconds, then release.
This should force it to reinstall the firmware and take you to the setup menu again to setup the player.
If you can get to this, set it up and tell me please how it now functions.

1. When you say firmware are you referring to the recorder or the TV set?

2 If you mean the recorder-I can only find one channel switch--do I

depress that one for 10sec?

That is no problem Denis!
Yes, the recorder, this is the issue.
That is the switch to depress for 10 seconds, then release.
It should then start the reset of the recorder.

Hi Richard--Thanks for your last e-mail--sorry to say that holding the channel switch for 10secs gave no improvement--I`ve noticed that the length of time that the unit remains unploughed (ie over night) seems to affect the time that the unit operates correctly before the fault occurs--

in other words after an over night with no mains supply to the unit the recorder will operate correctly in the morning for about 4mins before it switches off--this is a total shutdown then .

I hope this might help in your analysis.

Sorry, it was 19 hours before you replied and I was not online Denis.
I have read your responses and it confirms the issue.
It is the internal power supply that has faulted.
A corrupted firmware can cause this. But we have ruled this out by trying to reinstall it.
I am really sorry about this and you are going to have to return the recorder to have it replaced. It will be covered by the warranty if this has not expired, and the replacement will be done at no cost to you.
I am really sorry about this, and if you have problems, or would like any additional information or assistance, please do not hesitate to let me know.

repairs and they have agreed with your analysis and are going to


carry out a repair-(if they can get the spares!).
