As the first step I want to reset the recorder.
Can you open the flap on the actual recorded and with it on, hold the channel
UP and Down buttons for 6 seconds and release.
Once done, complete any setup steps it lists on the TV
Then make a recording, play it back and tell me if it now functions please.
Let me know the results please

Where do I find the set up menu?

The set up we have, we come through Sky freeview then into Panasonic DMR-EX86, then to TV.

Its easier to explain if you click on my link below Michael which is the manual
http://www.richersounds.com/static/manuals/dmrex86.pdf
Then go to page 68 and follow the instructions there.
Let me know the results please

Hi Richard, I have been to page 68 as per your email, have tried to follow the instructions, when I go into the function menu, I get nothing on the screen, as you can tell I am no technology "buff", I suspect I am wasting both of our time, it is probably better for me to call the local TV repair guy.

But thanks for trying to help.

Expert:  Richard replied 2 years ago.
Actually Michael, it is all pointing to a fault with either the hard drive or mainboard.
I would not incur the cost of a TV repair guy to do this last step as after this there is nothing they can do.
Its going to be a hardware fault and you are going to have to return the unit to have this repaired. It will be covered by the warranty if this has not expired, and the replacement will be done at no cost to you.
I am really sorry about this, and if you have problems, or would like any additional information or assistance, please do not hesitate to let me know.
And if you can take a second to rate my service, that would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
