I've just set up a new DMR-BWT740 Blu-ray Disc Recorder.

Resolved Question:

I've just set up a new DMR-BWT740 Blu-ray Disc Recorder. Everything works EXCEPT it won't read or play DVDs (both commercial and home-made) which were previously played and/or made on a Panasonic DMR-EX769 HDD and DVD recorder. Any advice would be appreciated (or is it broken?)

What exactly happens when you try to play a DVD? What does it do?

Can you please remove the power to the recorder (so unplug it from the power socket).

Then wait 10 minutes, connect the power again to the unit, turn it on and tell me please if it is now operating correctly.

I want you to reset the device please

Can you go to Settings, Initialize, then choose Shipping conditions

Complete this, do the setup and when done tell me if it now reads DVD's please

Haven't got "settings", only Setup, under Function Menu, then a choice of Basic Settings, Remote Recording, Wallpaper, BD Video data management. Where is 'Settings"?

It is the internal mainboard or laser for the DVD that has faulted.

I am really sorry about this and you are going to have to return the unit to have it replaced. It will be covered by the warranty if this has not expired, and the replacement will be done at no cost to you.
