Mark :

Hello, my name is XXXXX XXXXX I will try help you with this.

Mark :

Can you tell me the year, engine size and if petrol or diesel.

Mark :

Thanks.

Customer: Its a Clio expression 1.4 06 plate I think its fuel related
Customer: Petrol
Customer: I assume its down to the quality of the petrol that I put in at the supermarket
Customer: Are you still there?
Mark :

Is this the first time you have bought fuel from this supermarket?

Customer: No I buy it from supermarkets all the time and speaking to work colleagues they say its poor quality and is dirty so from what they are saying its sounds like dirt has got in to the sysrem
Mark :

I would doubt that is your problem

Customer: So any idea what the problem could be
Mark :

Has this only happened since the service?

Customer: No it did it before I got it serviced hence why I went to get it done
Mark :

Did you get new spark plugs fitted?

Customer: As far as I know yeah
Mark :

I would say most likely fault is with the crank sensor.

Customer: Oh great are they expensive part
Mark :

No

Mark :

And quite easy to fit. Take about 15 mins max

Mark :

Does the engine start easy when cold?

Customer: Yeah
Mark :

When hot?

Customer: Yeah
Mark :

Does the spluttering feel like it is misfireing

Customer: Yes and seems to loose power but only for a few seconds
Mark :

First I would make sure you did get new spark plugs at the service. I would also check the ignition leads for signs of misfire damage. I would next remove the crank sensor and make sure the tip of it is clean. They are magnetic and can get fouled up a bit over time. I would also check the throttle body was clean and not sticking.

Mark :

You could also try using a premier brand of fuel. They do make a difference but supermarket fuel isn't as bad as some people say.

Customer: OK I see how things go today as I'm at work shortly and if problem continues then I will pop in to the garage where the service was carried out
Mark :

Ok

Mark :

Thanks

Mark :

Have taken the car back to the garage where the car was serviced they have done a diagnostic test on the problem which came back as a coil failure having the part replaced tomorrow so thankfully not a very expensive repair job
