Ok..normally the crank or tdc sensor is located on the top edge of the gearbox/bellhousing where it meets/bolts to the engine..

you need to remove the aircleaner box and some of the pipe work.not the coolent lines..and then locate the top edge of the gearbox..you should see the sensor mounted with two bolts at either side - the sensor sits on centre of a banana shaped looking bracket which the 2 bolts hold in place..aswell as the pin connector on the top to remove.It can be tight area to work in but if you have a good enough socket set with extentions etc you should be fine.So maybe have a check there as thats where they are found normally on the 1.6 petrol engines..If you have the new sensor already then you see what you need to look out for..I do hope this helps
