An Uncle in Scotland has died with out leaving a will. There are 22 nephews and nieces made up of 8 families. There are no other surviving family members. Is the monies distributed by family or individual ?

The line of inheritance passes through brothers and sisters of the deceased. So it is per line not per nephew/niece. That assumes neither parent of the deceased is alive and that there was no spouse or children.
