when I open Internet Explorer I immediately get a warning message

Customer Question

when I open Internet Explorer I immediately get a warning message from McAfee telling me that a site I have not selected is dangerous. The site is shown as follows: http://www.searchgol.com/?babsrc =HP_ss_Btisdt7& may be risky to visit!! Can you tell me what this is about and how to stop it, because it also has started to freeze Internet Explorer.I have had to use Cntl, Alt, Delete to resme operations. It does not affect Google, Chrome or Firefox.

Hi my name is Jeremy, I would like to assist you with your question. I am an expert here on JustAnswer.com in the computer field.

How are you doing today?

Let's try a few things if you do not mind that will clear up this if there actually is an infection

First add our chat to your favorites. That way you can easily return after testing. You can also return from the link in your email.

Once you have our chat saved to your favorites

Hold the Windows Key (Looks like a flag on the keyboard) and press r

In the Runbox type msconfig and push enter

Click the Startup Tab

Press Disable ALL

Press Apply

Click on the Services Tab.

Check the box to "Hide Microsoft Items"

Click Disable All once again

Press Apply and OK

It will ask if you want to Restart or Exit without restart. For now choose "Exit without Restart"

(we'll manually reboot after we run a Malwarebytes scan for these above steps to take effect)

Next

Hold the Windows Key again and press r

This time type in inetcpl.cpl then push enter

Click the Advanced Tab

Click Reset

Check the delete personal settings box then click Reset again to confirm

Next we want to double check to make sure no Spyware (This is different than a Virus, McAfee does not detect these) has infected your computer.

Click this link

http://tinyurl.com/jeremymalwarebytes3

If it asks if you want to run or save choose Run

When the setup opens click OK, Next check both I accept boxes and press Next, Press Next 4 more times, then press Install

When the install completes it will open Malwarebytes automatically

Press the Scan button

The scan could take anywhere from 10 minutes up to an hour or more. If it finds any threats press the Show Results button then click the Remove Selected button.

This will reboot your computer and remove any infections you may have on your computer.

If it does not find any threats go ahead and manually shut the compuer down for the msconfig steps above to take effect.

After the computer reboots let's run one more scan to clean up any hard to remove temp files

http://tinyurl.com/jeremytfc

Click the link above. If it asks if you want to run or save choose Save

When it finishes downloading click Run on the TFC.exe program

When TFC opens click the Start button

This will remove any un-neeeded temp files and will also speed up you computer

Would you mind if I remotely share your screen to guide you through the msconfig steps?
