Resolved Question:

I have a laptop and a hp deskjet 2540 printer. I am unable however to get the scan function to work - it is unable to find the printer. I have tried wireless and USB. I have downloaded the software and the printers wifi light is all showing good. Please help!

Go here and it will tell youhttp://whatsmyos.com I can see you are a first time user to the site. What we do here is either a question and answer type of conversation or remote support where I would actually connect to the computer and have a look and attempt to fix the problem for you. Remote support can save a lot of time if you are not comfortable performing repairs yourself. Sometimes even with instructions you can make a mistake and make things worse. No and I can only print using a usb cable not wireless

ok, now press the windows key + R and type in mspaint and press enterThen click there on File, Scan and tell me what then happens.

There is no option to scan

It is there, when you click File, you see From Scanner or Camera listed.

It prints just fine wirelessly....

I just check the printer specifications and it is not a scanner, it is only a printer.
This is why you cannot scan, it is only for printing, not scanning.

It is a scanner that's why we bought it - on the top of the printer itself it says 'print, scan, copy'

I want to reinstall the drivers on the computer please.

It will download a file to your computer
Run this file and perform the installation which will also install the scanning drivers as these are missing.
Once done, restart the computer then go to MS Paint and tell me if the option is still greyed out please.

This link just keeps looping. It shows on the bottom right of my screen saying 'opening in...xxx'
However it will count down to less than 1 min and then just loop back to 20 mins over and over....

ok, I tested and the download is working and is straight from HP
Can you restart your computer and then try to download it again

Ok it did download however this is the same install that I did this morning. I now a screen saying connect a USB etc. I have done this already a dozen times this morning with no result.
