Customer Question

hi
I am having to fill in a W-8BEN form in getting my book taken on by Amazon.
I feel I have answered every question apart from no. 8.

Could you please tell me what is required by a refererence number?

Hello, I'm Keith and happy to help you with your question.

The Royal Bank of Scotland says:

'This can be the account number or any other relevant reference.'

So the answer is as long as the proverbial piece of string! Effectively it is your choice. Perhaps you should insert some reminder of use to you.

thank you Keith I am almost there

but could you say what you mean by an account number?

thanks peter

Well you might have lots of customers so you could use your reference number for identity purposes and in this case issue a new one. If you have only one customer than '1' would suffice.

I still do not know what is meant by an account number. Is it my bank account number?

What is it!

Could you please relate to me as really dumb and answer really fully and completely so that I am sure to understand as I am going a little nuts by the extended time that this whole process has taked....

Peter

It is your own personal number thought up by you to identify your customer. Big firms have account or identity numbers for each individual organisation with whom they trade. If you don't use these just invent one which is why I suggested '1.'

I suspect not, Peter, but better input rubbish rather than have it rejected because it isn't completed fully!
