I paid my CTAX bill just before the deadline of 31 December.

Resolved Question:

Hi, I paid my CTAX bill just before the deadline of 31 December. I have a message on my HMRC online account showing:
Tax 9,049.60
Interest -0.87
Penalties 0.00
Sub total 9,048.73
Less paid -9,049.60
Repayments/Reallocations 0.00
Adjustments 0.00
Total -0.87
Do I have to pay £0.87p? Yesterday it was £0.75p so will this increase?
Thanks

Hi. If you paid the CT early and it was credited before the actual payment day of 31 December, you will get credit interest as you paid early. Look here for more information on that. As far as I can see, HMRC owe you 87 pence. I hope this helps but let me know if you have any further questions.

Thank you for a quick reply. I paid by Faster Payment Service on Weds 30 December, would that mean HMRC received it that day or 4 days later?

The subtotal of £9,048.73 is less than the CT due of £9,049.60 so it must be credit interest either given becase you paid early or brought forward from an earlier year. If your bank had FPS then it should have arrived at HMRC on 30 December 2015.
