I help out at my family's takeaway and my family gives me

Resolved Question:

Hello,
I help out at my family's takeaway and my family gives me cash each week. I was just wondering if I have to declare this as income because she would give me cash each week too if I didn't help out (as pocket money), but she gives more cash if I help out more.
Thank you for your help.

Please advise if the payment is in lieu of wages.

Do you have other income

How much cash per week do you receive?

Many thanks

I'm not sure, she says she gives me a bit for pocket money.
I didn't at the time bit have started a new job.
I received £90/week before I started a new job but will be receiving £40/week from now

Thank you for your reply.

Based on what you have said that it

- is pocket money given to you by your family

- has continued albeit at a lower figure since you have started a new job

there is a strong case to suggest this is not income chargeable to income tax and that it is not declarable for tax purposes.

I hope this is helpful and answers your question.
