Customer Question

I have a question on stamp duty on second homes.
I have a property which I co-own with my mother, I have never lived in it nor have received any rent. I have also been living in Jersey for 14 years so have never owned a man residence in the UK. I am looking to buy a new property to live in and want to understand if I am caught by the new stamp duty rules
Thanks
Chris

Hello, I am Keith, one of the experts on Just Answer, and pleased to be able to help you with your question.

Yes, you are. Here is the advice from Zoopla:

'Properties anywhere in the world are considered too. So, if you own a 30% share of a £300,000 ski chalet in Bulgaria and are buying your first home in the UK, you’ll be stung with the extra tax.'

I am so sorry to have to rain on your parade.
