I have a Toyota Yaris 1600cc automatic. There is a fault

Customer Question

I have a Toyota Yaris 1600cc automatic.

There is a fault when the engine suddenly races on its own without the accelerator being pressed This happens when the vehicle is being driven not stationary.
The garage where the car was purchased is denying there is a fault.

Hello Greg,

Thank you for your reply.

The car is a 2007 model and the check engine light does not come on.

Although the engine races, the car does not speed up. It is a bit like it's jumping out of gear but it is not.

Thanks,

Lawrence

Hi Lawrence ..

Thank you for geting back ..

Okay when this happens can you see the rev counter jump up higher and if so how much
higher ..
Do you think this could be the time when the automatic is changing up a gear ?

Thanks for your reply.

The rev counter shoots up high.

I don't think the car is changing gear when this happens.

Hi Lawrence ..

This is what we call transmission slip ..

The most common problem for slippage is low fluid level .
So first check the fluid and top up if needed , check level with engine warm and running in "P"..
If fluid is ok then you may have an internal leak or a bad valve body .

This you will need a good transmission shop to check this for you.

When checking the fluid level also check that the condition is good ,should be a nice
transparent red to a light clean brown .
If dark dirty brown to black then you will have an internal issue with the clutch pack .

My goal is to provide you with excellent service – if you feel you have gotten anything less, please reply back with the reply box below and not the poor or bad service button ,

For further assistance there is no extra charge after accepting.
