Customer Question

Toyota Rav 4 - after having to maneuver back and forth to get the car out of a tight drive my wife reported that there was a burning smell and on the drive home the Rav would not go above 20 miles per hour?

Hello

this sounds like you may have burnt out the clutch - if the tight maneouvres involved a lot of high engine revs and not a lot of movement then thats the likely place it happened

Sometimes a burnt clutch plate will recover with normal use however if its now slipping all the time from a cold then its going to need replacing

this will need the gearbox to come off so expect at least a days labour plus the cost of the parts ( about £130) to make the repair

sorry its not better news
