Could you tell me the make/model of the tv?
Are you getting sound out of the tv speakers?
Does this happen with all inputs/sources (aerial, cable/satellite, dvd, game, apps, etc)?

Oh okay, so you get sound, but no picture at all (other than the speaker)?
If you hit the menu button on the panasonic tv remote, does it bring up the menu properly?
Does it look like an icon for a tv setting that is floating around above the picture?
Is there any chance you could send me a photo of it so I can see exactly what you are seeing?
How big is it
If you bring up the menu, does it go away during that time?
Can you go into the setup menu and look for a Factory Reset option
Can you disconnect everything from the tv, so it is connected only to the mains lead and nothing else
Then go into the menu, to the SETUP section, then to Shipping Condition and choose that setting, which resets everything to factory defaults
if it still persists after that, you can try the next option which is software update
and if that still doesn't help, then there is something wrong with the tv, as this is not a normal behavior and there is no setting that would cause it after the reset process. In that event, you'd need to take it back to the store and have it exchanged for another model.
Okay if it is still there, even on the tuner mode and through the auto setup, then there is something defective with the tv itself I'm sorry to say.
Not to be insulting, but are you certain this is actually part of the picture itself? Sometimes there are stickers placed on the outer surface of the screen noting features and functions of the tv, maybe there is a clear sticker there that is causing you to see this?
I didn't think you would miss something like that, but just want'ed to be certain.

At this point, there is unfortunately nothing more that you can do yourself, as this can only be an internal tv fault. So your next step will be to contact the retailer about a return/exchange.
You're welcome, and sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Panasonic sets are usually very reliable, but there is occasionally a bad one right off the line, damaged in shipping, etc. At least it came up now while it's still within the return policy.
