Hello, I’m Nathan, and I’ll be assisting you today.
My livelihood depends on your positive feedback, so your satisfaction is my highest priority.
This type of problem is often caused by a contaminated laser lens. You can attempt to clean it by blowing out the disc tray/slot area with a can of compressed air for dusting computers (keep the can upright only so you don't get chemical propellant on the lens).
If this doesn't help, you can try a specialty cleaning disc (example: ) which has little brushes that clean the lens more thoroughly.
If neither of these cleaning steps help, then this is more likely a hardware fault, which most likely be a bad write laser, which does wear out with age/use, and is different than than read laser. This type of issue would require repair/replacement. I'll be happy to help you locate a repair shop if you'd like, but typically they aren't worth fixing, as repairs end up costing as much or more than a whole new system ($200+ on average).
Best regards,
Nathan

Hi Ken, I saw you posted a new question. Were you wanting a 2nd opinion and an answer from another expert (you're charged again for a new question), or were you trying to reach me with some follow up questions on this same topic (no further charge to continue on with me)?
