I have set everything back to the factory settings with no improvement

Ray setting it to factory default is a good idea providing you done that correctly however what I need to know now is was the i player on the TV previously working OK?

Sony help said it was a problem with parental control on the BT-Router

Yes it may be that so worth investigating

However the firmware is a NECESSARY upgrade so if you have not done that or can not do that ask Sony to send out the flash (they will charge you for it)

OK in many cases this problem is because the firmware controlling the sets brain is out of date, so its recommended you do that as the first step
