I am having a problem with my Toshiba 32BV501B Digital

Resolved Question:

I am having a problem with my Toshiba 32BV501B Digital TV. (approx. 4 years old). Last Saturday I couldn't use change the channels using the remote as the light at the bottom of the screen wasn't on. After switching it off and on again and fiddling with the batteries in the remote it righted itself. It worked until Wednesday night when I went to turn it off using the remote and found I couldn't. It is now Saturday and it still doesn't work. I have been changing the channels using the small menu buttons at the bottom of the screen but as I don't have the arrows on the screen only on the remote which doesn't work, I am unable to access the menu button or anything which might enable me to see what the problem is!
Please email me on***@******.*** if you have any suggestions.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Hello, and sorry you're having problems. We are now connected on this website- which saves you money over having a Tech come to your home, and in many cases we can fix the problem you're having. In other cases, these things do require additional parts to fix. But I can help you with that as well. These symptoms you're having generally point to a failure in the TV's Mainboard- which is the component that processes the channel changing, remote operation and even the power/standby light. In many cases this requirs this board be replaced to fix the issue. However it's worth it to try a hard reset, as sometimes the processor in the TV can simply have locked up. The first thing you would try, is disconnect the set from power, then press and hold the power button on the TV itself (not the remote), for 10 seconds and release. Then plug the set back in, and also check that the power cord is connected tight at the TV as well. Press power once, and see if the set operates normally. Try this procedure up to 3 times, and please let me know what happens. Feel free to reply back if you need more help, or want to reply back with more details. It does not cost you anything more to reply back once you've rated. Please do rate me positively (at least 3 STARS) and I will continue with you until this is sorted. The positive rating ensures I am credited for my work.

I tried what you suggested but it still didn't work- should I ask someone to come and have a look at it?
