No the green light flashes when I press it but does not stay on. There is nothing on the screen it remains black.

OK, how old is the TV and how long it have had the problem?

Have you tried to unplug TV power cord from wall socket for 10 minutes to reset, rpelug back in, turn it ON and check?

I do not know the age. I have only had the problem today. Yes I have tried turning it off and on again.

Unplugging power cord is bit different, can you try it now?

It was unplugged for around 30mins.

OK, it is not any wrong setting or reset issue, it seems hardware related problem and power supply board is suspected which isn't providing supplies to main board and backlight system so the TV can work. You would need to replace power supply board in TV to get it fixed.
