Customer Question

I am 83 years old. This morning I passed blood when I urinated. I experienced a slight pain. Some time ago I had TURPS, apparently successful and recently I had a pacemaker fitted and stents in three arteries. My general health is good and I take reasonable exercise. My daily medication is Ramipril 10mg, Clopidogrel 75mg, Bisoprolol 2.5mg, and Atorvastatin 40 mg prescrbed. Additional not on prescription I take 1 multivitamin tablet. Help.

Hello,

I am DR Ken and I will be helping you today.

To be frank - Passing of blood in urine worries me. It can be due to varied causes - inflammation or infection of the bladder/ mass in the bladder {worries me the most}/ stone in bladder or urinary tract. TURP should not cause bleeding once the area of operation heals.

If I were you - I would get a physical evaluation {sooner the better} along with few investigations like blood and urine analysis/ ultrasound for abdomen followed by CT if needed later to get more answers.

Till than - Have balanced diet, adequate fluid/ avoid alcohol, smoking or excess caffeine/ Cranberry juice should help.

Wish you well.

Good luck

Thank you for your answer. I had deduced that already, my recourse to your website was because the symptoms happened outside NHS hours.

I have a routine appointment with my GP on Tuesday, till then I will follow your advice.

best wishes
