The bladder definitely should not be left in place of you have interstitial cystitis. It needs to be removed at the time of whatever procedure you choose to get rid of your pain. Any operation will take 4-6 hours. A new bladder can be made out of your intestine that you can cathetetize to get the urine out (neobladder). I would recommend this if you are healthy enough to cathetetize yourself after surgery. Hope this helps.
