I was topping up with the wrong oil changed oil and filter got better but starting to get noisy again. what oil is best to use its got 10-40 at the moment

Customer: replied 2 years ago.

Loud ticking when starting then slowly gets quieter when at running temp on idle it is quieter and comes and goes.

Customer: replied 2 years ago.

Can I use a different oil for this problem?

Expert:  Greg replied 2 years ago.
Hi Charlie .

Do a engine flush and oil change then use the correct oil and filter .

In most case the engine flush will sort out the lifter issue .

When doing the flush run the engine 20 minutes at idle do not accelerate the engine, after 20 minutes drain and replace the oil .

This will work to 80% of the time if there is no engine damage .

Do this then get back to me if you have any lifter noise still.

Make sure you use a good engine flush agent like cyclo or liquid moly

My goal is to provide you with excellent service – if you feel you have gotten anything less, please reply back with the reply box below and not the poor or bad service button ,

already flushed and changed oil think I need to replace lifters

Expert:  Greg replied 2 years ago.
Hi Charlie .

After flushing the system and changing the oil and filter, run your engine until at operating temp , then run at 2500rpm and hold for 15 - 20 minutes, this will bleed the lifters do this first before replacing the lifter .

You might find this works and you save on replacing the lifter , now if you still have a problem replace .
