I got a 59 Astra h 1.7 cdti engine code z17dtj engine cut out on idl

Welcome to Just Answer, If it cuts out and has poor starting then there are a couple of possible causes that are common on the Z17dt engine.

First is that the return or feed pipe to the fuel filter can rub on the rear of the engine and a small hole will let air in and cause the diesel to drain back to the tank.

Also as you have mentioned is the suction/regulator valve on the back of the high pressure pump, this is the most common cause, these valves are available on Ebay CLICK HERE.
