Customer Question

My vauxhall corsa 2009 automatic is stuck in Park Gear. The gear won't move unless I release the emergency release under the gear flap. The gear works perfectly when driving.

Hello there,

Can you check if your brake lights are working please?

If not replace the brake light switch, it is part of the circuit for the shift lock.

my brake lights are working. I have checked.
Is there anything else that can be the cause of the problem.
Expert:  HoldenTech replied 1 month ago.

Ok, if the brake lights are working, the next cause is the BTSI (Brake Transmission Shift Interlock) solenoid.

Mounted on the gearshift mechanism.

We need to see if the 12v and ground is at the solenoid.

You should normally hear the solenoid operate in park while on and off the brake pedal.

I did not hear Any sound when I pressed the brake pedal while the car is in park position and the engine is running.
What does that mean?
Expert:  HoldenTech replied 1 month ago.

Sounds like the BTSI solenoid I mentioned above.

I have replaced many of these.

Generally a job for a dealer tech.
