Hello, my name is Dr. Strand. I can try to help answer your question about Apollo
This lump could either be an abscess (infection under the skin, from a small scratch or wound that may have healed over)
Is the lump soft or firm?
Or it could also be some sort of a growth at his age
It's good that he is still eating/drinking and otherwise behaving normally.
THe lump is quite firm and crusty , he lives with his sibling who has no wounds
In the meantime, if he will allow it. You can do warm compresses on the area with a warm moist wash cloth (~10 min twice a day)
Sometimes they simply play to rough, and even a small scratch or nick in the skin can introduce infection. Sometimes the outer wound heals before we even see the abscess develop
ok the wound is about the size of a 2 p piece and is much bigger than the wounds previously had when fighting
the lump is on his neck - usully the fight wounds ( not that many ) are around his ears
If they have fought and created wounds on each other in the past, this is likely the case again. He probably just got bitten in a different area. And the abscesses will swell much larger than the wound itself.
Warm compresses may help it come to a head, and rupture before thursday.
But he should still be seen by your regular vet to assess whether the sight needs to be drained, and to start some antibiotic therapy orally
Hopefully this helps
Do you have any other questions?
You still there?
If there is a visible open wound, you can also gently clean this area with hydrogen peroxide
Thank you - we will try all the above, that's very helpful
You are welcome.
Have a happy new year!
