1- How long has this been going on?

Maureen, can you please answer a few questions for me so that I am better informed of what is happening with Holly.

This has been going on since early this morning weight about 20lb she is not attempting to eat or drink now

Expert:  Dr. Peter replied 2 years ago.
Maureen, vomiting can be caused by either problems within the gastrointestinal tract itself or secondary to something else going on systemically. It will be difficult for me to determine the exact underlying cause without a hands on exam and some testing. But, common causes are: A simple gastritis, dietary indiscretion, intestinal parasites, ingestion of a foreign body, etc. In any case of vomiting the first thing to do is give the stomach time to rest. This is what you can do:

1- Do not give things like Pepto Bismol or imodium. Start her on Pepcid AC (famotidine) 10mg 1/2 tablet every 12 hours for the next 3 days. You can buy Pepcid AC over the counter in any pharmacy.
2- No food or water for 8-12 hours. Need to give her gastrointestinal tract time to rest.
3- After 8-12 hours offer a small amount of water. Wait half hour, if no vomiting, offer small amount of rice (50%) and boiled boneless chicken or ground beef (50%) 4-6 times a day. Keep on this diet for several days then wean into regular diet.
4- If she continues to vomit or not willing to eat after doing the above she will need to be seen by your family veterinarian for a hands on examination.

My goal is to provide you with excellent service – if you feel you have gotten anything less, please reply back. I am happy to address follow-up questions. Thank you for your business and I hope to work with you again soon!

Do you think Apple's could upset her tummy she was in the garden there are Apple's are falling of the tree

Expert:  Dr. Peter replied 2 years ago.
Dogs are able to digest pieces of apple without any problem. If she ate a whole apple this can cause an obstruction. For now I would recommend to observe her and follow the above recommendations. If she continues to vomit after doing the above then the next step would be a hands on examination with family veterinarian to pin point the exact underlying cause.

Please reply if you have additional questions.
